General Questions

What is Web Hosting?
Web hosting is much like renting an office. Your business or personal website is housed on a server and you have access to it just as you would have access to your office. As with any business, you want yours to be identified by a name. In Internet speak; this is called a Domain Name. A domain name allows you to address your space on a server as (www.yourcompany.com). This allows your website, email, and Internet presence to be uniquely your own.     ^top

Can I have a web site if I don't have my own domain name?
Yes, you can! If you don't want to pay the domain name registration fee, but want to enjoy great hosting services then we have the plan for you. You can have a sub-domain with the web address of yourname.iprosper.net and still receive the same services and features of our hosting plans.  ^top

How do I register a domain name or transfer an existing one?
iProsper.net Web Hosting will do all the work for you! Just tell us what you want and we will get your domain name registered or transferred. We charge $25/yr for new domain name registration and domain transfers are $25/yr with a FREE one year extension. We must receive your payment before we will register or transer your domain name. This fee will give you exclusive use of your domain name for 1 year. Click here to get your domain name today!   ^top

What is 'bandwidth' or 'transfer rates'?
These are terms used to measure the amount of data sent from web site hosting servers to computers requesting that data. When someone visits your website and clicks on a link or submits a form, they are requesting the transfer of data. Our experience has shown that 2000 to 4000 mb of bandwidth or transfer is generous enough to accommodate most business and personal websites. Any additional transfer rate that your site incurs over and above the allotted amount per month per hosting option is billed at $5/1000mb's. In addition to generous bandwidth rates, iProsper.net Web Hosting offers an over rate security plan. In any month that you exceed your data transfer rate enough to increase your costs to an equal or greater cost than the next higher package, you will be automatically upgraded into the next package. This is a FREE option you may select when you establish your account or by requesting it via email.           ^top

How many megabytes do I get for my site?
Each hosting plan offers a different amount of space, starting with 150 MB's of space. Some people ask us "Why so much space?". The answer is easy. Most hosting companies provide a fraction of the space we offer for the same price. We do this because we know how hard it is to create a high performance site using only 20 megabytes. It's not an easy task. Giving you a large amount of space at low cost not only keeps you happy, but provides plenty of room for your company to expand.                ^top

Do you offer web design services?
Yes, we do offer web design and management services. iProsper.net Web Hosting is proud to provide a full-service hosting environment, if needed. Our site designers will custom design a site to your specifications, and if you wish, manage the site on a regular basis after it's published to the Internet.                           ^top

Do I have to host my site with you in order to have it designed or managed by iProsper.net Hosting?
No. iProsper.net Web Hosting will custom design and manage your site even if it's hosted with another web site hosting service. We do recommend considering us as a web site hosting service to decrease complications of the process. Plus, we have great prices on excellent services!          ^top

Do you offer dial up/internet connection services?
iProsper.net Web Hosting does not provide a dial up service, but can help you get connected to the internet through BellSouth, Comcast or Charter.         ^top

Are there any Setup or Hidden Fees?
Our normal setup fee is $50, but for a limited time we're waiving the setup fee! If you need a custom domain name we will register it for you for only $25, which is good for one year.                                   ^top

What does it mean if a site is "Suspended"?
A site is suspended if, for whatever reason, a payment is missed. When a payment is missed, we will send an e-mail to the address which you specify when you open an account. If this e-mail is not responded to within five days, your web site is temporarily shut down. Don't worry, we won't remove your files. You have ten days to get proper payment to us before your account is closed. If for some reason you pay after ten days, and your files have been removed from the server, there will be a $45 fee to restore your site from a backup tape (which is not guaranteed). Always remember to keep a copy of your site on your own computer to avoid this fee.  Click here to view other important details about what happens if a site is suspended or delinquent.                ^top

What type of equipment is my site hosted on? What technology do you use to provide hosting services?
We use only the very best quality equipment and software to host your site. When you setup your account your site will be hosted on on one of our Windows 2003 servers. We utilize redundant, high-speed connections to the internet, provide POP3 and web-based email with tough spam filters, and monitor our entire network via external auditing systems to confirm everything runs smoothly.               ^top

 Support Questions

How is my domain name registered?
For every new order, there is a domain name. If you choose not to register a domain name with us, you may choose a sub-domain name. This would be http://yourname.iprosper.net.  This sub-domain can be setup within 24 hrs. and requires no additional fee. If you choose to register a domain name with us, we will take the information you provide when you create an account and use it as the contact information on your site. If it is an existing domain name, you will receive an e-mail from the registering authority requesting that you confirm the site transfer. You should respond to this e-mail as soon as possible. This will help speed up the process. We charge $25/yr for new domain name registration and domain transfers are $25/yr with a FREE one year extension. We must receive your payment before we will register or transer your domain name. This fee will give you exclusive use of your domain name for 1 year. How does your e-mail system work? What’s an autoresponder? What’s e-mail forwarding? Find out how to use it here.
We use the Imail E-mail server for all of our clients. When an e-mail account is set up, it is put on one of our new mail servers. It is given a username and a password. They can be found in your welcome letter. There are two ways you can access your e-mail. You can configure your e-mail client, such as Outlook, to retrieve your e-mail for you, or you can get it on the web by browsing to www.iProsper.net. You can also add users, aliases, and lists from the web by logging into your webmaster account. You can find detailed info. on using the email system here. IMPORTANT NOTE: You may not have access to the web-based version if you have a sub-domain (yourname.iprosper.net). You can then request email changes/additions by emailing support.
An autoresponder is just a reply e-mail that is automatically sent out to anyone who sends an e-mail to you. The content of the autoresponse e-mail is customizable by you and can be changed any time. These can be turned on or off easily, and are free of charge.
E-Mail forwarding simply lets you forward all the e-mail that comes into a mailbox to another address. You can even have it forward to several addresses. For security and anti-spam purposes, we do address email forwarding in our Terms of Service.                      ^top

What are Microsoft® FrontPage® extensions? Do you support Microsoft® FrontPage® 2003?
Many of our customers use Microsoft® FrontPage®, a popular web design program. Microsoft® FrontPage® extensions are the server side settings that we configure here that allow you to use Microsoft® FrontPage® components, such as counters and forms. We not only support both Microsoft® FrontPage® 2003 extensions, Microsoft® FrontPage® 2002, Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 and Microsoft® FrontPage® 98 extensions, but our hardware and software has been tested by Microsoft® and found to meet their strict standards of a registered Web Presence Provider. This designation provides top level communication and support from Microsoft® for FrontPage® issues.                       ^top

What is the purpose of daily backups?
Doing a backup of the web site information on each of our web servers gives you the assurance that if there is a problem with either the server or your site, there are copies of it that can be restored. It is also useful if your site is Suspended for an extended period of time.        ^top

Questions About Our Servers

How do you know if the servers are down?
We have a comprehensive system that alerts us whenever a server goes down. It monitors our servers and if any of the servers experience a problem, it will automatically contact a server administrator. You can view current info about our servers here.             ^top

What types of servers do you use?
iProsper.net uses Windows 2003 servers. Windows 2003 servers support most of the popular web design tools, such as Active Server Pages, database support, and Front Page.        ^top

What is FTP? How do I use it?
FTP, which stands for File Transfer Protocol, is a way of uploading your web page's files on to our servers. You connect to your sites FTP server where you will have the option of uploading, downloading, deleting, or creating new files inside of your directory. It's as easy as point and click! But before you start, you will want to make sure that you have a FTP program, such as Leap FTP, Cute FTP, and WS FTP . IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are using FrontPage or any other HTML editor that requires FrontPage extensions, do not use FTP to upload files to your site. The FTP process corrupts the FrontPage extensions and will cause your forms, counters, etc. to malfunction. To upload files to your FrontPage enabled site, use the import function in FrontPage to add additional files to the web you’re working with. Then, publish your site to our server and those files will be sent.              ^top
